March 15th, 2005. The Jack Artist, the second solo album from The Jacka, was the first album to be released on his independent label “The Artist Records” and sold incredible units straight out of the trunk. The album kicked off with the ever so popular Bay Area classic “Never Blink” which introduced us to a young J. Stalin & future labelmate Dubb 20 with the video being shot by Tha Razor. But the main single that was pushed with a visual was “Barney” which was bumped from every speaker then and is still in regular rotation to this day. Barney also received a remix with Cormega of New York and Mob Figaz brother Rydah J Klyde, which only amped up its popularity. The track “Girls Say” also got major play out here, and even made it to the radio a couple times. But it was the deep real tracks like “Blind World” with Husalah, “Never Equal” with Ampichino that really made you a fan of his music and style. When everybody was being hyphy, Jacka stood out and did music his way, in a style that we have grown so accustomed to now. The album was entirely producd by Rob-Lo and this set off the signature sound. This project is now out of print and easily fetches over $300 brand new on eBay, so press play above and take a trip with us down memory lane. If you grew up in the Bay Area, more then one of these songs will remind you of your youth. If not, then play this album and understand the mind of a Bay Area legend. – youngMONC
