If you’re from the Bay Area, you’ve probably heard of Erk Tha Jerk. If not for his smash single “Right Here”, a smooth joint directed at the ladies that was and continues to be in heavy rotation on the radio, Erk is well known for his reputation as “The Hood Nerd”, and his mixtape series of the same name that displays both his prowess behind the mic and his flawless production. Em Dub got a chance to catch up with Erk on the streets of Oakland and they chopped it up about how his name came about, the songs that got him into hip-hop, his process for making a song, the Hood Nerd series, and of course, his debut album Nerd’s Eye View which drops 11.9.10. He even spit some hot acapella raps.
If you’re in the Bay Area, you can see Erk LIVE with his group the Fly N*gga Movement (with Nio Tha Gift, Traxamillion & Willie Joe) at the first ever Under The Bay concert November 12th at Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley.
