Thizzler: Where are you from? How was your upbringing?
Trippy Ki: I’m LA born and California raised, from The Valley to The Bay. The first half of my life I grew up aighttttt. I’m the oldest of 12, rocked dolo most the time, a good and bad kid. Shit happens to all of us, it happened to us, and then things change. Me and my n*ggas intelligent and we want better, but we know what’s up.
T: How did you begin making music?
T.K.: I wrote my first rhyme at 12. The expression felt good, it was a place to talk my sh*t freely. I jumped on FL and used a recorder on the computer.
T: How did you get your rap name?
T.K.: My papa gave me the name. It’s Oki (okey doke), came from my slyness, and him telling the fam don’t fall for the okey doke. They called me Oki.
T: How would describe your musical style?
T.K.: A blend of keeping my pridefulness by being legit in what I say I am and what I learned growing up, and having fun with music because real life sometimes isn’t as fun. I grew up a fan of 3-6 Mafia and over time trap made the most sense and felt the best, but I got west coast sensibilities so I f*ck with Dj Fresh type sh*t fasho too.
T: Tell me about “Flight 1884”.
T.K.: Fly friends and family know me as a road runner. You don’t know if I’m in your city, dead, or alive sometimes. “Flight 1884” is a postcard back to the west side where I’m from no matter what.
T: What inspired this new single?
T.K.: It’s a postcard back to the west side. It’s almost my way of letting people that can’t be out here see, hear, and respect where we coming from and what I got going on.
T: How is it different than previous drops?
T.K.: Most my drops are trap beats, this one is a smoother vibe to just let down all fo and let your hair blow. Listen.
T: Is it part of a project? If so, can you tell me more about that?
T.K.: Yeah this is one of the singles from the newer release (Trippy Ki – “Wanted”) streaming everywhere, visuals included. There’s plenty to slide to on this project.
T: What message do you want fans to walk away with after listening to “Flight 1884”?
T.K.: I want them to understand that the sauce you get from being out here and growing up around the culture, adds something extra that others love and love to see. Women, weed, and weather, fym?!!! Lol.
T: What’s next?
T.K.: Next we continue promoting and posting, working on more music always. What I do have control over is RIGHT NOW and that now is “WANTED” streaming everywhere!
T: Is there anything else you want to say?
T.K.: Yeah come follow me on IG (@trippy.Ki), no ones really a stranger say “what’s up!” We might have a play to run! Never know! Thank y’all for the interview, y’all see me around fasho fasho!
