Miss Vicky just released her latest single “Play Too Much” ft. Derek King, produced by Noisey Neighborz. The song explores the ins-and-outs of a relationship full of predetermined moves and immature thought patterns, sung over a heavily produced pop instrumentation. It’s a vibe! Thizzler: Where are you from? How was your upbringing?
Miss Vicky: I was born and raised in San Francisco. I grew up in a family-oriented hispanic household by mom and great grandma. My great grandma stepped up to help my mom because I didn’t meet my dad until I was 18.
T: How did you begin making music?
MV: I began making music when my passion for music started waking me up every morning. Music has always been a part of my life. From church, to middle school choir, to home studios with friends, all the way to Secret Studios in San Francisco where I met J. Moe.
T: How did you get your artist name?
MV: I got my name from my family. It’s been a nickname for years, but once I dropped my Hyphy Pop song “Another One”, that’s when Miss Vicky really came to life.
T: How would you describe your musical style?
MV: I would describe my music style as Hyphy Pop. Imagine Hyphy in TOP 40 Pop.
T: Tell me about your new song “Play Too Much”.
MV: My new song “Play Too Much” ft. Derek King is an example of Hyphy Pop. “Play Too Much” talks about asking for clarity because a lot of people like to play games.
T: What inspired the single?
MV: What inspired the song was the lockdown and being quarantined. It made me wonder how the lockdown affected relationships.
T: How is it different than previous releases?
MV: “Play Too Much” is different than my other releases because I feel like as an artist I’m zoned in. I know what I want and I’m ready to show the world I’m a Hyphy Pop star.
T: What message do you want fans to walk away with after listening?
MV: The message I want listeners to leave with after listening to “Play Too Much” is STOP PLAYING! LOL clarity is okay. Just be honest and be yourself.
T: What’s next for you?
MV: First, I’m filming 4 videos for my upcoming singles. Those singles feature Derek King, Baby Gas, Likybo, and Marty Obey. So, be on the lookout. Second, be on the lookout for my Hyphy Pop merch.
T: Is there anything else you want to say?
MV: I want to give a huge shoutout to my team! You know who you are. Special shoutout to my feature artists ( Derek King, Baby Gas, Likybo, and Marty Obey). Big shoutout to the Write Key. Shoutout to the producers and engineers I’ve been working with, J. Moe, Lynniah, Noisey Neighborz, and Shonuff. I appreciate all you do.
