Twenty-year-old Japanese lofi hip-hop producer Minthaze and Oakland rap artist Subconscious connected online a year ago and have been steadily collaborating on new projects, even though they’ve never actually met. What started as a message on SoundCloud has grown into a creative bond where the two team up to work across time zones leveraging mainly email and social media. Minthaze was recently featured in GQ and has amassed millions of streams on Spotify, his beats continue to inspire Subconscious’ lyrics aimed at addressing the opioid epidemic and surviving adolescence.
