Peacoat Gang believed in themselves when nobody else would

Peacoat Gang is an Oregon based rap duo that is looking to bolster their fanbase to make big plays in 2019. Their rise has not been an easy one. They’ve been able to turn their passion for music and self-belief into their super power. Today they unleash the music video for their single “Lil Baby”, a record that entreats you to be about your bag as much as they are. We had a chance to speak with them about their rap group, their music, and plans for the future.

Thizzler: Where are you from? How was your upbringing?

Peacoat Gang: We are a duo currently out of Eugene, Oregon. Previously we are from Phoenix Arizona and Sacramento. Our story is simple. We come from circumstances that most people don’t make it out of, but if you believe in yourself and you truly work for your dream, anything can happen. We feel like we’re proving that.

T: How did you all meet and begin making music?

PG: Fate. We’ve done music for long time, but recently just starting to get traction. We didn’t always grow up together, and we didn’t start making music until like 12 years ago. We were both broke, high school dropouts. The only thing we had was the music and the group. No one really believed in it at the time , or took us seriously. It didn’t matter, we believed in us before anyone did. We took the little and only money we had and made a mixtape that we shopped around and eventually got a tour off of.

T: How did you guys name yourself Peacoat Gang?

PG: We used to wear peacoats on stage when we performed, when we went outside, or with anything we did. One day someone called us Peacoat Gang. We stopped and were like, “yeah we like that.” We stuck with it. We don’t wear the coats no more.

T: How would describe your musical style?

PG: Versatile. We don’t want to be labeled as one trick ponies, or as one genre. Therefore we don’t like to label our music [as anything] other then “good music”.

T: Tell me about the new song “Lil Baby”.

PG: Lil baby is our newest release. We did the video in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was directed by “Schampane Visuals”. We recorded it in Oakland, California at “Tooned Studios” with engineer “Barz Makes Bangers”. The song’s about getting money, all the time. By yourself, with your boys, with your girl. How ever you gotta get it, go get it Lil Baby.

T: What album will it be on?

PG: Right now, “Lil Baby” is a single. We plan on releasing two songs every week for the next year, so there is no album on the way right now. Just new music every week.

T: Why take that approach?

PG: We wanted to just release singles until we felt we had a good chunk of material already out before we focused on releasing album.

T: What makes your new music different from past music?

PG:  Everything we do, we try to make different. If you’re not, we feel like you’re not pushing the boundaries and that’s boring. We are always trying something new to get a new outcome.

T: What message do you want fans to walk away with?

PG:  Believe in yourself, even when nobody else will.

T: What’s next for Peacoat Gang?

PG: We plan on dropping two songs a week for the next year on all music steaming platforms. We got a show with Tokyo Jetz in Houston, Texas on Friday, November 9th, a feature tour coming up after that (more info TBA), many more videos, and songs on the way.

T: Is there anything else you want to say?

PG: Follow the gang
