Earlier this week we here at Thizzler asked you which artists deserved to be Bay Area Freshmen for 2018 on our social media platforms. This question got some of you really excited, some really angry, and got everybody active. Of course, we discontinued the Bay Area Freshmen 10 back in 2014, with a class that included Caleborate, Ezale, Nef The Pharaoh, and Chippass amongst others.
We do not plan to bring back the #BAF10 any time soon, if ever, but we do have fun discussing who amongst a fresh new generation of artists would earn the honor had the list never been discontinued. We saw which artists many of you believed deserved a spot, and today we want to share which artists each of us believe deserve the honor.
Thizzler’s A&R’s Young Monc, KGBeatz, DeeeBleezy, Em Dub, and myself each put together lists of our personal Bay Area Freshmen 2018 picks. We each had different methods and criteria. To varying degrees we all considered originality, artfulness, accolades, views, fanbase, potential to break out beyond the Bay Area, and of course our personal tastes. There are a ton of new artists deserving of shout outs, but remember each of us only had 10 spots to fill!
