@ItsKamaiyah is having a hell of a year so far. Since making our Artist’s To Look Out For in 2016 list, she’s been mobbing through the industry, with glowing writeups from tastemaker outlets like Pitchfork, MTV, Stereogum, XXL, Karen Civil and the list goes on. Her debut mixtape, A Good Night In The Ghetto, had a smackin release party on a rainy night at the Diamond Supply store on Haight (presented by Thizzler On The Roof of course) and has been doing crazy numbers online. Not only that, but her breakout single How Does It Feel continues to move with over 670k views, thanks in part to lots of love from 106.1 KMEL. Rumors have been swirling that she’s been signed to YG, that she has music with Kehlani coming, and really, the possibilities have been endless.
So is there really a song with Drake on the way? According to XXL, yes. The up & coming East Oakland star was mobbing through the XXL offices and happened to drop a little teaser about what’s to come. Peep:
“I have a huge feature coming,” Yaya tells XXL confidently with a gold-toothed grin as she gives a nod in the direction of Drake’s XXL Magazine cover from 2013. Kamaiyah’s “huge feature” is with Drake. She explains that the collaboration happened after a few “follows” on social media. After an exchange of contact information, one of Kamaiyah’s songs found its way to the 6 God’s ear.
“Drake was like, “Yeah, I fuck with her shit. Send me her shit. And he was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be the anthem, I’m about to send my verse over,’” she says.
Kamaiyah’s manager, Francois Wiley, confirmed the song, saying, “Drake followed her on Instagram back in December and they’ve been talking, texting and yeah, there is a Kamaiyah and Drake record on the way.”
Although Wiley says this new record is not on Drizzy’s upcoming album, Views From the 6, it will be out within the next month — just in time for the warm weather. In the meantime, get on Kamaiyah’s wave with her debut project, A Good Night in the Ghetto.
