Shady Nate ft. HD & Dubb 20 “Flyin’ Wit My Iron”
Shady Nate needs to hire someone to do promo for him or something for him, because all of his releases this past year or so apart from Still Based on a True Story have just sort of appeared with no warning. Son of The Hood just came out and it’s real solid, Shady Nate is still the most talented member of Livewire in my book and on this release he further develops an emotional depth to his lyrics that is pretty impressive. It would have been nice if the album had less features and more Shady Nate, but most releases coming out of the Bay lately have been feature-heavy, so maybe that’s just the way things are these days.
D-Lo’s last album with DJ Fresh was arguably one of the best Tonite Show albums that Fresh has ever done, so their new album He’s Back was much anticipated by many folks in the Bay including myself. It seemed like he had a lot of hype around him back in ’08 and ’09 when “No Hoe” was blowing up and then went MIA for a while, not really sure what happened with him, but I’m glad he is indeed back and it sounds like he is picking up right where he left off with the last Tonite Show album here. DJ Fresh is always at his creative peak with D-Lo, working outside of his laid-back-retro beat comfort zone and bringing some weird, futuristic and energetic post-hyphy beats for him. D-Lo is a better rapper than he will probably ever get credit for and his beat selection is outstanding. This new album is probably not as good as his last release, but the beat on this song is ridiculous. Go listen to that original Tonite Show D-Lo from ’09 if you haven’t, you will not regret it.
J. Stalin ft. Beeda Weeda & Shady Nate “Take It Back”
Stalin just came out with the bluntly titled I’m Sellin’ Dope mixtape and it’s really good because there are not too many songs where J. Stalin is rapping/singing about women/sex (although there is a song on here called “Pussy Cologne” lololololol). His style remains extremely unique and the beats are much better than expected for a mixtape. Major thumbs up!…
