The Weekly Ear Test Volume #1

Whatโ€™s up yaโ€™ll.

Thizzlerโ€™s come a long way since itโ€™s first steps. It went from a little site no one knew about where Iโ€™d post what I liked into a somewhat? reputable site full of new and upcoming hip-hop. Somewhere along the line I feel like it lost that โ€œthis is what Iโ€™m feelinโ€ element. So Iโ€™m bringin that back now withโ€ฆ.

The Weekly Ear Test Volume #1

Every Saturday, Iโ€™m gunna post what Iโ€™ve been listening to throughout the week. Keep yaโ€™ll in the loop, ya know? So here you go.

Rafael Casal โ€“ As Good As Your Word

As soon as I heard that Top 100 Bay Area Slang slumper I had to check out this dude. I was not disappointed. Although itโ€™s a much different style from that song, dude is hella lyrical and REAL with almost every song on the album. He has a good balance of strong poetic tracks mixed with a couple hip-hop bangers. Iโ€™m especially feelinโ€™ The Core, Dontchawannabeastar, Hustler, July 17 and Headbanger.

La Coka Nostra โ€“ A Brand You Can Trust La Coka Nostra - A Brand You Can Trust

I kinda slept on this one, itโ€™s true. Iโ€™ve had this album sittin on my computer for a week or two now and havenโ€™t listened to it at all. I guess I kinda thought it would be alot like the other stuff theyโ€™ve put out. Itโ€™s not. This shit goes 10x harder. The style is essentially the same, but much more polished. The beats on most tracks are crazy, like Once Upon A Time and Choose Your Side. The whole crew spits hard on every track and they have guest spots from stars like Snoop Dogg, Immortal Technique, Bun B, B-Real, and more. I recommend this one for sure if you like hardcore hip-hop. It kinda reminds me stylistically ofโ€ฆ

Slaughterhouse โ€“ Slaughterhouse Slaughterhouse

Ok, so I just started listening to this last night. Nice flows, nice beats, and nice chemistry between em. The whole album comes thru sick with a kind of crazy, frantic energy. Iโ€™ve posted The One and Cuckoo here before, Microphone (produced by Alchemist) is also sick. With Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce Da 5โ€™9โ€ณ you canโ€™t go wrong lyrically, and the beats mostly match their savagery.

So there you have it. Volume #1 of the Weekly Ear Test. Stay tuned for next weekโ€™s installment.
